BEFORE The Accident Happens!
Accidents happen. And when it does, the less you have to worry about the better. One way to plan ahead is to make sure you have Rental Reimbursement Coverage now.
What Is Rental Reimbursement Coverage
Rental Reimbursement Coverage is an optional benefit you can choose to cover rental costs in the event your car is damaged in an auto accident. Provided that the loss is covered under your Collision or Comprehensive Coverages, Rental Reimbursement Coverage will reimburse you for your rental while your car is being repaired. Or, in the case of a total loss, up to a few days after a settlement offer is made to you.
How It Works
Most insurance carriers offer two easy ways to use the coverage:
- You can rent a vehicle from an approved car rental company and have them bill your insurance carrier directly.
- You can rent a vehicle from a car rental company of your choice, pay for the rental yourself, and then submit receipts for reimbursement along with a claims form.
Keep in mind that Rental Reimbursement Coverages typically have a per day and a per accident limit. For example, you might have a $30 per day limit with a $900 per accident limit. Higher – and even unlimited – per day limits are available if you want to rent higher-end vehicles.
The cost of Rental Reimbursement Coverage varies by insurance company, however, average costs are inexpensive ranging from about $16 to $55 per six month policy term.
